At the beginning of the spring, the COVID-19 epidemic broke out. Zhang Xiaoyuan was working at the frontline of the epidemic prevention and control on the campus, tried to solve every actual problem faced by the 55 international students staying in the school. He taught the international students to make dumplings, experiencing the Spring Festival folk custom of China, led the international students to play basketball, conveying the positive and healthy life attitude and timely issued the materials and articles for the epidemic prevention and control, passing on care and confidence. “We are not alone, because the school and leaders still care and pay attention to us!”
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the international students who can’t speak Chinese faced an unimaginable difficulty in seeking medical advice. In the middle ten days of February, an international student needed to see a doctor. Zhang Xiaoyuan went through the relevant procedures for the student, such as early consultation, contact with the attending doctor, fund raising for operation and acquisition of parents’ authorizations. Therefore, the student smoothly completed the processes of emergency treatment, transfer treatment, hospitalization and operation and hospital discharge. At present, the student has been fully recovered. Someone asked him that was he afraid at that time? Zhang Xiaoyuan answered that “it is duty-bound without much thinking”.
This Chinese teacher in the grass-root post worked at the critical moment, making the international students in China to experience the warmth of home.
