On October 20 in Ethiopia, the expert group assigned by our college to Africa, composed of 3 persons smoothly arrived at Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, as led by Zhang Tiezhu, the professor of the College of Rolling Stock. After the compact and effective pre-employment training and security education, lasting for three days, the members of the expert group officially began to give lessons in Ethiopia on October 22.
The training lasted for one month and mainly aimed to cultivate some electric locomotive drivers for the Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway, greatly addressing the demand for electric locomotive drivers. The Addis Ababa-Djibouti Railway was the first transnational electrified railway meeting the Chinese standards in East Africa, in the length of 751.7 kilometers. The electric locomotives provided for the railway were the electric locomotives of CRRC in the model of HXD1C. Also, the joint venture of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation - China Railway Engineering Corporation is responsible for operating and maintaining the railway.
In the training, Zhang Tiezhu and Li Shuying, two teachers of the College of Rolling Stock were responsible for giving six courses for the electric locomotive major and the relevant practical training tasks and Xu Weihong, the teacher of the College of International Education was responsible for the interpretation. The English of the 20 students involved in the training was poor, bringing the difficulties in communication. The teachers lived in the place which stays about 1 hour away from the training place, so they needed to go there and back every day. In the aspect of the study, the teachers should complete the five-hour course teaching in the daytime and tutor the students in the out-of-class time. At night, the teachers should prepare lessons specifically and discuss with the English teachers for the lessons based on the study progresses of the students, often working very late. In the aspect of the life, the teachers overcame the difficulties of water shortage, altitude stress and different diets, promoted the spirits of fearing neither hardship nor tiredness, and completed various teaching work with quality and quantity guaranteed.
The training project was another training conducted for an Africa country after the 2017 professional locomotive training for the Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya and the vocational education training of our college to actively meet the development demand for the economic globalization and “the Belt and Road” of the state, serve the railway enterprises “going out” by virtue of the brand and professional advantage and go abroad. The implementation of the project expanded the professional scope of external training, further improved the international service ability of our college, conveyed the craftsmanship spirit to the African friendship and sufficiently performed the objectives of our college: the place where “the Belt and Road” extended will the be place where the school establishes a branch and sends the talents.
