On January 22, the first batch of 18 South African admitted by our college arrived at the school smoothly, marking the beginning of the one-year study in China.
On the morning of January 24, the orientation ceremony for the first batch of international students was held grandly in the Xingfu campus. Dong Lisheng and Ni Ju, the vice presidents and the heads of the relevant functional departments, teaching units and the College of International Education were present in the activity.
The ceremony began in the solemn national anthem. Dong Lisheng warmly welcomed the arrival of the South African students in the speech, raised some earnest expectations and requirements to them and blessed the students to master the skills and Chinese culture and become an exchange messenger between China and Africa. Macias Terrence, the representative of the international students appreciated the thoughtful arrangement of our college in the speech and quoted a piece of Chinese proverb – “it is better to teach a man to fish than to give him fish” to express the determination of learning the professional technologies and skills. After that, Li Fusheng, the director of the office of academic affairs and Cao Qiyong, the secretary of the general party branch in the College of International Education respectively explained the teaching arrangement and student management regulations in detail.
The batch of international students has passed the assessment and selection of the Higher Education and Training Department of South Africa. And our college was entrusted to cultivate the international students. To cultivate the students, each relevant department had conducted lots of investigation and preparation work since October of the last year based on the unified deployment of the international student leading group of the school, so as to make a detailed arrangement for the enrollment, management, teaching, practical training and logistical support. Kong Fanshi, the president emphasized in the special meeting that the office of academic affairs was required to formulate the cultivation objective and teaching plan meeting the student characteristics. The teachers should optimize the teaching measures by the information means, and the logistical support department should provide the students with humanistic care and warm services by comprehensively considering the cultural background of the international students, making them live and study happily.
After the international students entered the school, Su Dongmin, the secretary of the party committee and Xie Qian, the vice secretary inspected the environment and facilities in the classrooms, dormitories and canteens provided to the international students, visited the student representative and required each level of management personnel to put the security and stability in the first place, go deep into the students as planned and carry out the relevant service management.
With the joint efforts of the teaching and administrative staff of the school, each work is proceeding smoothly at present and the professional training and Chinese language learning of the international students are taking place orderly.
